The Chicken Coops.
In the summer of 2001,
I knew that we just had to have some farm critters to have a proper farm.

After doing some research, I built my first Chicken Ark.

We bought three little bantam hens from a farm in Cadiz, Ky
and so began our poultry farm. Chili, Pepper and Oreo.

In the fall I found a beautiful pair of Black Cochins
that brought my flock to five and I gathered an egg or two each day through the first winter.

We get 3-4 eggs a day from our older bantam hens now.

During the winter, daughter Rachel became the custodian of two baby chicks
that she raised in her bedroom until they were old enough to go out side.

This meant early spring of 2002 became a two Ark family.

April 8th, 2002 we got 10 White Silkie chicks and 20 standard chicks of several different breeds.

The weather has warmed up and 18 of the standard chicks have grown
enough to be moved into their own Ark.

The ten White Silkie chicks and a pair of standard Speckled Sussex
are still in the house, too small yet to safely ride out the spring storms.
