A passion for flowers.
We completed the house in November of 2000.
It was built into a hillside that was previously home to 50 head of
cattle. Our yard was clay and weeds.
I quickly set about planting the hundreds of iris and tiger lily tubers
that I brought with me. Also brought about 100 buttercup bulbs that
I planted randomly though the woods before the winter set in.
Spring came and we got to work adding sidewalks to get up the hill
and I terraced the hillside and started planting.
First to bloom each spring are the buttercups in the woods.
The Terraced bed slowly comes to life.
April brings beauty in shades of white, pink and purple.
Spirea bushes, Iris, Hyacinth and Phlox.
Early last spring I started planting Asiatic Lily bulbs in my terraced
garden.
These are the May bloomers.
Two New Dawn Rambling Roses have grown from 1 foot bare root bushes
to mounds
20 foot wide and 4 foot tall in only two years.
Dark green foliage covered with white blooms from May through the first
frost in November. The Roseraie is my choice for Roses!
The warm summer months are the red months.
Hollyhocks raised from seed, reached 7 foot tall.
Dahlia's are another favorite of mine.
Zinnias can grow to 5 foot tall in our humid Kentucky summers.
I remember cannas from my grandmother's garden.
